Former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has announced that she will run for Governor of Arkansas, referring to the position “the last line of defense” against the “radical left” in Washington, according to NBC News.

“As governor, I will defend your right to be free of socialism and tyranny, your Second Amendment right to keep your family safe and your freedom of speech and religious liberty,” Sanders said in a video announcing her candidacy. “Our state needs a leader with the courage to do what’s right, not what’s politically correct or convenient.”

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson cannot seek re-election in 2022 because of term limits.

Sanders father, Mike Huckabee, was governor from 1996 to 2007.

When Trump announced that Sanders would be leaving her position in June 2019, she hadn’t held a briefing in 94 days.
